WORKS OF MERCY; MERCY WORKS

WORKOUT WEDNESDAY

A Midweek Spiritual Workout with
Fr. Marino H. Msigala, OFM Capuchin

WORKS OF MERCY; MERCY WORKS

The word mercy is derived from the Latin word misericordia, which combines pity, compassion, or having a heart for another. This is an expression of heartfelt compassion for others, one that pushes us to act, to help, to understand, and to forgive.

These are the CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY:

Feed the hungry.

Give drink to the thirsty.

Clothe the naked.

Visit the imprisoned.

Shelter the homeless.

Visit the sick.

Bury the dead.

These are the SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY:

Counsel the doubtful.

Instruct the ignorant.

Admonish the sinner.

Comfort the afflicted.

Forgive offenses willingly.

Bear wrongs patiently.

Pray for the living and the dead.

On this SPIRITUAL WORKOUT WEDNESDAY, review the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. You may casually or unintentionally perform many more of them than you realize.  Focus on one or two of them and intentionally offer mercy to a relative, friend, or neighbor. Mercy works!
