MIRACLE AT THE ALTAR
HOW DO THE BREAD AND WINE TURN INTO THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST?
TRANSUBSTANTIATION
Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality
of the priest, the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
The transubstantiation happens during the consecration when the priest speaks
the words uttered by Christ Himself at the Last Supper, “This is My Body…this
is My Blood.”
JOHN 6:55
The bread and wine are not a symbol for the body and blood of Christ because the words are very explicit, “This is My body.” Rather than, “This represents or is a symbol of My Body.” “My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.”
EUCHARIST MEANS THANKSGIVING
In Jesus taking the form of bread, we are reminded of
our complete dependence upon God. We must believe with all our hearts that
Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. Only then will we find the importance
and joy in participating in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. When we receive the
Eucharist, we are giving thanks to God for His gifts, blessings, and graces
that come to us through the Holy Mass.
On this SPIRITUAL WORKOUT WEDNESDAY, renew your
belief in the Eucharist. When you approach the altar to receive Holy Communion,
remember that you are truly receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. He is true
food and true drink, and He feeds us with Himself. Give thanks!
